Discharge for 'pot' plant man - court

12:10am Thursday 15th May 2008

A MAN who was found with a cannabis plant has appeared before magistrates in Worcester.

James Gallagher, of The Avenue, Welland, Malvern, appeared at Worcester magistrates' court where he admitted possessing the drug, with a street value of £5, at the end of December last year.

Gemma Goode, prosecuting, said his house was searched and a number of drugs were found, including the cannabis bush.

"He said it was for his own personal use," she said.

In mitigation, Emma Smith said Gallagher, 49, had co-operated with police and it was for his own consumption to help with his arthritis.

"He was using it as an alternative means of pain relief," she added.

Chairman of the magistrates Sue Jones gave Gallagher a conditional discharge for six months and fined him £30.
