City MP wants killer sent to Portuguese prison

THE man who murdered a Worcester decorator in a frenzied knife attack should be kicked out of the country as soon as possible, the city's MP has said.

Labour MP Mike Foster has written to the immigration department calling for Joao De Oliveira to be deported if he is eventually let out.

In a letter to your Worcester News - printed in full on page six - Mr Foster said he had requested officials address the "loophole" that allowed the 34 year old convicted killer to move to the UK without British police being notified.

Mr Foster said he believed De Oliveira should remain in prison until his death, but he has contacted the Ministry of Justice to see if he can be moved to a Portuguese jail to save taxpayers' money.

De Oliveira was sentenced to life in prison this week after being found guilty of the brutal murder of 56-year-old John Lloyd. He will be locked up for at least 25 years before being considered for parole.Mr Foster wrote: "I do not believe in the death sentence, but for murder a life sentence should mean exactly that.

"If Mr De Oliveira is considered for release after a very long prison stay, then I have asked for him to be deported. This means he could not return to the UK for a further 10 years."

Half-German, half-Portuguese De Oliveira moved to England undetected in 2004 after being deported from Germany, where he had served four years in prison for killing a 30-year-old woman in his flat.

In the wake of De Oliveira's conviction at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, Mr Foster attracted criticism for his defence of the EU rules which say only those EU nationals who pose a threat to national security can be barred from the UK.

In his letter today, the MP reaffirmed the basic right of EU nationals to move freely between member states, but suggested this freedom should be curtailed when public safety may be at risk.

"I want to put on the record my views on this," he wrote. "Whilst I do believe in the free movement of people between EU countries, there is a clear case that "national security concerns" should also include what could be described as a broader "public policy" concerns - in this case the risk of a former criminal re-offending."

And responding to comments made by Worcester News readers on our webiste www.worcesternews.co.uk about the cost of keeping De Oliveira in jail, Mr Foster added: "I know some people are concerned the stay is at the UK taxpayers' expense. I have therefore asked the Ministry of Justice to examine whether there is a case for the sentence to be served in a Portuguese prison."

Tell me when is the next election?

Rest assured, from the reply you sent to me in responce to my letter asking you to vote against the invasion of Iraq, I will not rest until we have a better MP representing us.

The blood of all servicemen killed in Iraq are on you and all the other Blairites and Tony Blair himself.

Clearly Michael Foster is back-pedalling frantically.

How about a musical,
Michael Foster - The Amazing Technicolor Turncoat.

Worried now about our slim majority are we?

What a slimey back stabbing,selfindulge
nt creep foster is.Unbelievable,I would have accepted him if he had stood by his misguided convictions, for all his PC stupidity. This just shows he has absolutly no integrity, and is unfit to represent himself let alone the good honest peaple of worcester.

Earlier in the week Foster was quoted as saying
There's something not quite right in the idea of stopping people moving here, as vile as those crimes are.
Mike Foster MP

Now he says
"Whilst I do believe in the free movement of people between EU countries, there is a clear case that "national security concerns" should also include what could be described as a broader "public policy" concerns - in this case the risk of a former criminal re-offending."

A complete change of policy, why? I think we all know the answer to that.

His new opposite and revised position is very well, but when push comes to shove and the EU and Gordon decide that there will be no change in policy, you can be sure that Foster will again turncoat and support his master/s and not his electorate.

You only have to look at this weeks commons vote on the closure of post offices which he fully supported despite all his bluff and bluster locally. He'll tell you one thing here then at Westminster, he'll do the complete opposite. The man has no principles and no backbone.

As our MP, he is on thin ice and he knows it. This is a clear attempt at damage limitation, but all he has succeeded in doing is to show just what an unprincipled turncoat he is.

How could he have been "deported from Germany four years ago, without being detected"?

The authorities MUST have known about him. Papers and tickets for the plane, etc...

I really do think we should stop taking in "all and sundry" from around the world - and the dross that comes with them!

Seriously - it should stop tomorrow!

Give me the job - I'll stop it for you!

Stan, It is Mike Foster who thinks "we are being taken in" by lies and deceit

Readers, we have here, a clear demonstration of the level to which politicians and politics have sunk in this country of ours.
We must ask ourselves what would Mr. Fosters response would have been now on this issue, if the WN, had not raised the issue of foreign murderers coming to this country to murder again.
We must also ask ourselves what Mr Fosters response would have been had not Mr Luff MP responded to it in the positive way that he did in the first instance.
It is only now, having seen the expressions of outrage in this paper over the issue and his own comments that Mr Foster comes out with a popular view to repair the damage to himself and his party.
It is only now, after having seen the response from Peter Luff MP that he seeks to come out with these revised comments which he hopes will repair his damaged image in order to compete, party for party.
Sorry Mr Foster, to late. On an issue as fundamental as this, which goes to the heart of the disatisfaction gripping this country over the crazy EU imposed rules which allow the most horrendous foreign criminals into our country, you immediately rush into party dogma and blind, unthinking support for a policy which is an insult to every man and woman in this country.
"I WANT TO PUT ON THE RECORD MY VIEWS ON THIS". Well, you have certainly done that Mr Foster, your views are the usual claptrap that we have come to expect in which you patently fail to reflect even the most reasonable views of your constituents but choose instead to sound off without thinking of how your constituents would view your comments. Indeed, as merlin says above "I would have accepted him if he had stood by his misguided convictions, for all his PC stupidity". You say what the constituents want to hear from you only after your original comments go down like a lead balloon. We then get the flannel, the spin and the papering over.
And that is it Mr Foster, you blindly shoot from the hip, not even attempting to wrap up your words in diplomatic niceties, eg "this man should not have been in the country but current laws allow that and I will do my best to change this aspect to try and stop it happening again", but no we have comparisons with criminals in Liverpool as if a murderer coming from Germany and being let in to murder again in England is a common everyday occurrence which we must learn to accept as normal.
We must await to see what the next election brings, one thing is certain though, a few more faux pas like this and there will be a different MP for Worcester and I would think that a pretty safe bet.

Back in 1997 the people of this Country voted for a new beginning under New Labour. They hoped for a better future, but their dream has gone. Mike has become a 'yes man' to all that this government has done, first under Blair and now under Brown. This government seems intent on destroying this once great nation. To think that I stood with you, Mike, as your agent back then. The only thing I see now is you losing your seat, and New Labour being kicked out at the next General Election. Stop being a 'yes man' and stand up and be counted.

May I say all the comments you say about Mr Mike Foster I find to be correct. He says one thing here in Worcester, and another when in Parliament with his cronies. We wont be fooled again, Mr Foster.

Well done Colin, may there be more politicians who can stand up for truth.

If I may be permitted another short comment about MPs - John White above, rightly says:

"He says one thing here in Worcester, and another when in Parliament with his cronies."

Too right, John and I would only add that this appears to apply to ALL MPs these days - especially over the Lisbon Treaty and all the daily other matters that help send our nation down the shute to the dustbin!

They say publicly they believe one thing, but vote another way entirely when in the House. Why?

One big problem with all this treasonous activity, is that it will be too far gone to retrieve our national self-government again, long before we get another so-called General Election in this country, in 2010.

By that time, our reclamation of self-government will then require little short of a revolution!

Think about it - 2010!

...and a Happy Easter to you all!

John,
I'm afraid that some of the local voters will forget or ignore his actions.
I for one wont, not that I have ever voted for him.
As far as I'm concerned he stood up for the right of a convicted foreign murderer to come to our city and murder again, and he put this murderers right before the right of one of his own constituants well being,or the feelings of his family! all in the name of political dogma !I really think that the WN should have this screaming out from there front page.
Posted by: Alan2, Worcester on 8:58pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Having just this minute read the WN coverage of this issue on its front page, I bet our Mr Foster is realy chuffed. He couldn't have written a better article himself. Together with his revolting letter (after his previous comments)- the indications are that he is a wonderful MP entirely in keeping with the views of his constituents.
Peter Luff is also brought into it as if he was severely criticised or found wanting as well - when in fact he was not.
Someone mentioned previously the possible bias of the WN towards New Labour and I had my suspicions - now I am pretty well convinced.
"KICK HIM OUT MP wants killer sent to Portuguese Prison". These are the headlines in the paper, well done Mr Foster, with the help of the WN you may pull it off yet.
Posted by: merlin, worcester on 9:40pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Alan2,
I would think that Worcester should DEMAND that foster publicly apologises and then resigns it is the only descent and honourable course of action open to him.He is finished.
Posted by: Logik, worcester on 10:08pm Sat 22 Mar 08
A better headline would have been 'City MP makes embarrassing climbdown'.

Bias by the Worcester News, possibly, given the rapidness of the publishing of his letter. There again, all papers have their bias, dependent on just who owns them.

Mike Foster says:-

"If Mr De Oliveira is considered for release after a very long prison stay, then I have asked for him to be deported. This means he could not return to the UK for a further 10 years ."

...presumably after which he would once again be welcomed by Mr Foster with open arms. Like he mentioned previously, this convicted killer had a right to come here. Personally, my view is that killers should have no rights.

Let us not forget, Nu-Labour's policy of 'all are welcome - violent criminals included', have resulted in a local man's untimely death.

As for Foster, what's that old saying, "give 'em enough rope......."

Come on Mr Foster, we know you are watching these comments, let's see if you have the guts to explain yourself further. We're waiting!!
Posted by: local resident, worcester on 10:36pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Logik,
Do you honestly think that that couwardly custard could actually act on your last paragraph.

When hell freezes over.
Posted by: merlin, worcester on 10:38pm Sat 22 Mar 08
foster won't explain himself, he's a coward,a snivelling little parasite who's been exposed for the treacherous communist he has always been. its more than obvious that he has planned his retirement from "regional politics" to go aboard the EU gravy train. He doesn't care what the cost even if it means being a traitor to his own,the people who put there trust in him
Posted by: Logik, worcester on 10:52pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Do I expect him to come forward and comment, not really, no backbone you see.

Still, no harm in throwing down the gauntlet just in case he manages to find one.

This thread doesn't seem to be going too well for you, does it Mike? You seem to have just dug yourself in even deeper.
Posted by: merlin, worcester on 11:13pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Mike,
come on explain your about turn.Your response to John Lloyd's murder is public record.
Your gut reaction was to toe the nulabour line.
I for one always go by gut reaction - oh sorry you have no guts.As a matter of interest I have no political afflictions, there have been too many members of my family killed in wars over the last two centuries to believe in anything other than looking after my own. What do you believe in mike?is it some kind of insidious rainbow future? fair enough that's your right in a free democracy, the democracy that my lineage has fought to gain, and that you would cast aside.
Posted by: Zero Tollerance, Malvern on 7:43am Sun 23 Mar 08
Foster is like the rest of em, a two faced gutless idiot. I wonder if he will paint the same picture to Gormless Brown? Probably not! He will be looking for a brown nose and stick 2 fingers upto his constitients when his back is turned. Why the quick turn around Mike? Give us all a laugh and feed us more lies just like the rest of your Lying Labour Loonatics! I for one cant wait for the next elections.... just to see Labour faces....they seem so certain.
Posted by: Stan Parr, Pershore on 11:22am Sun 23 Mar 08
Gents, please!

His reply would probably be "am I bovvered?"

The next Election is not due until 2010, by which time we should be well locked into the Brussels Control Centre and - put in simple words - there will be no need for an election.

If there should be one, held purely for cosmetic reasons and to pacify a restless public, it will be fixed.

End of...as they say these days.

Well said Stan,by then our new masters will be cracking the big stick. And our Mps will be saying (YES SIR, NO SIR,)
Traitors everyone.

Talking about our EU puppet-masters, I was well impressed by Alistair Darling's recent budget speech. Not once was I able to see the strings.

Nice one, Logik - keep your sense of humour, we are all going to need it shortly, as I detect clouds on the horizon.

They are pushing us about again - and we don't like that, do we?

Pity really - but I bet we don't get another 60 years of peace.

Are we really going to roll over and let these idiots in Brussels and Westminster hammer us into the ground?

We go broke, while Germany gets richer!

Who says history does not repeat itself?
Posted by: merlin, worcester on 2:39pm Mon 24 Mar 08
Foster,
we know you championed animal rights in the case of foxhunting.( or was it your little socialist dig at the rich)but what about your opinions about the mediaeval, barbaric and unnecessary practice of halal and kosher slaughter? Are you again going to be a hypocrite and put foreign rights(??) over and above the rights and safeguards put in place in a modern civilised nation.I as I have said before would like to know what you stand for, because so far your certainly not speaking for me or anyone I know.
Posted by: varien, worcester on 5:13pm Mon 24 Mar 08
The sooner this snivelling little weasel Foster loses his seat in parliament the better it will be for all of us. Has he ever done anything that really benefits the citizens of Worcester.
