Dyslexia tests on offer

PARENTS who think their child may be dyslexic are being invited to a Worcestershire school for a free professional test.

National Dyslexia week begins on Monday, highlighting the plight of sufferers.

This Saturday the New Elizabethan School, at Quarry Bank, Hartlebury, will be hosting an open day for anyone who feels that they may have dyslexia or a learning difficulty of some kind.

It takes place from 11am to 3pm.

Vice principal Nicola Jones said: "We are hoping to reach out to parents whose children may not be performing as well as they would expect at school, or for those whose perhaps co-ordination maybe of concern.

"Perhaps their child may be disruptive in class or labelled as badly-behaved, it may simply be a case of frustration through a learning concern.

"We are very interested in hearing from children aged from five to 15 but will also be happy to hear from any adults concerned.

"We are offering 40 free Ace tests and 20 free dyslexia screening test to the first people to phone and reserve their place with us on 01299 250258.

"After that we will be taking bookings for just £5 for these tests which from a specialist appointment would normally cost around £400.

"If people can not make this day, they are asked to phone the school leaving us details as extra days will be put on in the future at the same price to come and get tested.

"There will be advice on the day of teaching methods and treatment for anyone who discovers a learning difficulty, and a chance to understand and overcome obstacles for future life long learning."
