A pair of Peregrine Falcons have begun to lay eggs atop Worcester Cathedral.
Affectionately named Percy and Peggy, the pair first came to the cathedral tower back in 2022, and have returned each year since, whilst successfully producing hatchlings.
Worcester residents along with people from around the world gather annually to watch the eggs hatch, watch the chicks fed and ringed before the young birds fledge for the first time, all within only a few months.
A cathedral spokesperson said: “Peggy certainly took us by surprise with the first egg being laid on Friday, March 15, a few days earlier than last year.
"We now have three eggs, and our experts predict that, if there is to be a fourth, it should arrive early on Friday morning.
"The chicks should then hopefully hatch towards the end of April.
“The livestream has already had over 30,000 views from around the world.
"We’re delighted to be able to bring all the action live from the nest to our followers again this year, and here’s hoping for another exciting year.”
Peregrine falcons are well-known for being the fastest birds in the world, reaching speeds of over 300km when swooping in for the kill.
The birds are found throughout the world, historically building nests along cliff edges.
However, they also thrive in the urban environment, building nests on top of some of our city's highest buildings.
Percy and Peggy, typically hunt small birds, including pigeons.
