A FIRE which threatened to engulf a hedge was caused by a 'discarded cigarette' as a crew brought the blaze under control.
The hedge fire 'in the open' at Spetchley Road in Worcester was reported at 2.20pm on Sunday.
A single crew from Worcester Fire Station attended the incident.
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "A metre of hedgerow was well alight and extinguished using a hosereel jet. The fire was believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
"There were no casualties and no other emergency services attended. The incident was marked as pending closure at 3.08pm."
