A MAN has been rescued after threatening to jump into the river in Worcester.

Fire crews and boat crews were called to the incident at 16.54pm on Wednesday evening (April 10) near Waterworks Road.

A man was found threatening to jump into the water but was talked down by police before being handed over to paramedics.

A spokesperson from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Worcester Fire Station plus the boat crews from Worcester and Evesham, in addition to the service’s search and rescue dog were called at 16:54 on 10 April to Waterworks Road in Worcester.

"A man was threatening to jump into the water and was talked down by police (log 337) before being handed over to the care of the ambulance service (log 2539).

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 15.39pm."

West Mercia Police said following support from officers and other emergency services, the man was taken to safety.

"We received a call around 4.50pm yesterday afternoon (10 April) with the concern for the safety of a man near to Waterworks Road in Worcester.

"Officers attended the incident and following support from the police and other emergency services, the man was taken to safety."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the man was assessed by a specialist paramedic at the scene before being conveyed to hospital.

"We were called to concerns for a patient’s welfare on Waterworks Road in Worcester at around 5pm.

"A specialist paramedic was sent to the scene where, on arrival, we found a man.

"Once he was brought the safety, he was assessed and conveyed to hospital."
