TWO fire crews rushed to the scene of a motorway car fire near Worcester after an engine fault sparked a blaze.

The fire happened on the M5 between junctions 7 (Worcester South) and 8 (Strensham) at 6.44pm yesterday.

A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two crews – one each from Worcester and Upton upon Severn Fire Stations – were called to a small vehicle on fire on the M5 southbound between junctions 7 and 8.

"A small fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle, caused by an engine fault, had been extinguished before the arrival of the fire service. The scene was made safe and a thermal imaging camera used to check for hot spots. Police were also in attendance.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 7.15pm."
