A man has been arrested following the death of another man in a car crash in Worcester. 

The crash resulted in the death of a man in his 50s and four other men were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with serious injuries.

One of the men who was taken to hospital has since been arrested. 

The 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit through drink or drugs.

The crash happened in Pershore Lane, Warndon, last night (Monday) at about 10.25pm involving a yellow Volkswagen Golf and a silver Honda Civic. 

Four ambulances attended the incident, two men in their 20s and a man in his 30s were also among those taken to hospital.

One of the cars ended up on its side and police closed the road for several hours after the crash.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage, to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit South by emailing sciusouth@westmercia.police.uk  quoting incident number 00511_I_29042024.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "On arrival, crews found two cars had been involved in a collision and one of the cars had ended up on its side.

"The driver from the car on its side, a man, was in critical condition.

"After being removed from the vehicle, ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support.

"Sadly despite everyone's best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The four patients from the other car, all men, were already out of the vehicle when crews arrived.

"They were all treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment."

Along with four ambulances, a paramedic officer, a specialist officer, The Air Ambulance Critical Care Car, a fire officer, two fire engines and police were all at the scene. 

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We received a call at 10.31pm to a road traffic collision involving two cars. 

"Two fire engines and a fire officer from Worcester Fire Station attended the scene. 

"One person was physically trapped before being handed over to the ambulance service."

Fire and rescue crews left the scene shortly after midnight.
