A COUPLE who lived in the same street from the age of two are today celebrating 60 years of marriage.

Hilda and Geoff Hutchinson met 80 years ago when their families moved into Fairbairn Avenue, Worcester.

Now the couple – who both went to the Samuel Southall School (now Bishop Perowne CE Performing Arts College in Merriman’s Hill) – live in the next street, Coombs Road, Barbourne.

“We have lived by each other all our lives,” said Mrs Hutchinson, aged 82, who is a former warehouse assistant. “We would hang about at the gate then we started going to the pictures and things like that.”

Mr Hutchinson, 83, a retired radio investigator with British Telecom, served with the Worcestershire Regiment in Burma during the Second World War.

Mr and Mrs Hutchinson have two children, Linda, 58, and Stephen, 51, as well as three grandchildren.

Their daughter, Mrs Jones, said: “I think it’s fantastic that they have reached 60 years of marriage. It is still obvious how fond they are of each other and what a great importance they are to one another. They hardly ever have a cross word.”

Mrs Jones said the couple, who enjoy ballroom dancing and gardening, would be having a small party with friends and relatives to celebrate their diamond wedding.

The couple have requested that any gifts be made in the form of donations to Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice, which cares for people with terminal illnesses.
